I am so happy to share this moment with you as I start to round this last curve into the last 100m.
I have moved to the final phases of the book project (Self edit #4 | Beta Testing #1 | Copyedit #2 | Proofreading #1)
In this part of the phase, I am finishing up beta testing and will review a proof copy (pictured), front to back, for quality control. Any corrections are noted for the next step.
Once I complete the proof copy review and all beta feedback are collected, I will take a few days to make revisions to the digital manuscript, update the manuscript settings, and prepare a clean manuscript copy to submit to my editor.
The editor will copyedit and proofread everything for a polished and ready to published version of the manuscript.
I still have a few parts to finish up the project such as product description, sales pages, and book cover touchup. This work is being outsourced.
So someone asked me how long does it take to write a novel? The standard answer is it depends on many factors. The biggest thing I can offer is to treat it as a long-term project and break it down into tiny tasks. Life will get in the way, so having a fluid enough plan will give you more chances to succeed. Here is my breakdown
1.5 months to write and edit the first draft.
13 months for developmental edits, self edits, copy edits, beta reading/market testing, and proofreading. I planned for four edit rounds.
1 month for advanced copy readers to read and review book. (Want to be a reader? send me a note)
